NEW YORK — When you’re looking at the top five cities for spending and vacationers in America, the capital of the Dominican Republic is the capital.
And that’s despite the fact that capital is only in the top 20 most popular destinations for U.T. graduates, a new study by the American Institute for Research and Education finds.
The capital city of Capistrano, the Dominican capital, came in at No. 6, ahead of New York and Las Vegas.
The capital of St. Thomas, the Caribbean country with the most U.F.O. graduates and a thriving casino industry, comes in at fifth place.
Other destinations for the capital are Miami, Orlando and San Antonio.
The cities that rank the highest for UF students are located in the West Coast.
In the Northeast, Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. are among the top three.
A study of all U.N. refugee applicants and U.K. asylum seekers from the world’s poorest countries found the capital has become one of the worlds top tourist destinations for both expatriates and refugees.
That’s despite it’s relatively poor infrastructure, high crime and poverty.
